This video is all about Project Showcase, an event we host twice a year to highlight our best student projects of the semester!

Project Showcase happens twice a year. It's kind of a culminating event for students to show their pride in their best work they've done that semester. FlexTech doesn't do normal assignments. We do project based learning and instead of exams we do project showcase. So they pick a project that they're more passion about or interested in or that they really know and then we invite the parents and family or community to come in and they get to just show all their hard work and what they've learned. It's kind of like a gallery walk of a big variety of projects that are going on in the school. Students can put their own voice and choice into their projects to where they could look uniquely different.  Here we get to like create what we want to do. It's just so much easier to incorporate what I love. It really makes people care about what they're learning instead of just remembering it for a test at the end of each unit. In the real world there are no tests, there are no presentations on World War II. But you will have to present your work and what you're passionate about. And then 3 months later they're still gonna know their content because they touched it and they felt it and they experienced it. I think that's what really sets us apart. Project based learning  definitely helps you develop a lot of skills. I think the top ones are communication, the ability to give a presentation. Critical thinking, research skills, collaboration skills if it's a group project.  Personally, like, I have a lot of anxiety and it's really helped me be comfortable with talking to an audience and making eye contact. What I love about project showcase is seeing student rise to the occasion. They impress us, they go above and beyond Once the event starts you can kind of see the smiles on their faces, you can see the pride in their eyes. I love to see the parents that are either confused or don't know what's going on in their project, and they come in like, "wow this is what you guys are doing!  I didn't know she was interested in this. I didn't know she liked to do that!" When my parents came, they were like, "Oh, this is what project-based learning looks like." Now the parents and the community get to see what we see every day and they are always so happy, so proud, standing tall and that project based setting allows them to just shine in ways they never did before.
